Why Flatbed Is the Only Tow You Should Accept for Most Vehicles
I want to be direct about something I see go wrong regularly in San Antonio: wheel-lift towing on vehicles that should never be wheel-lifted. Someone’s AWD Subaru Outback gets hooked up with two wheels spinning against the drivetrain. Or a 4×4 F-150 gets towed with the rear axle off the ground while the front wheels roll β forcing the transfer case, transmission, and differential to rotate without lubrication.
In the worst cases, you finish a tow and your drivetrain is destroyed β damage that costs $2,000β$8,000 to repair and wasn’t there before the tow. I’ve seen it. It’s avoidable.

Flatbed Towing San Antonio, TX β The Recommended Safe Option for AWD, 4WD & Luxury Vehicles
All four wheels off the ground. Drivetrain fully protected. Available 24/7 across all of Bexar County.
A flatbed keeps all four wheels off the ground. Your vehicle rides on a flat platform. The drivetrain never moves. That’s why we default to flatbed for any AWD, 4WD, all-wheel-drive, or electric vehicle β no exceptions.
β οΈ Flatbed towing is the manufacturer-recommended method for many vehicles.
- All AWD vehicles (Subaru, Audi Quattro, etc.)
- All 4WD trucks and SUVs in 4WD mode
- Full-time 4WD vehicles (can’t be towed in 2WD)
- Vehicles with automatic all-wheel drive
- Low-clearance sports cars and supercars
- Vehicles with front or rear collision damage
- Electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles β always
- Luxury vehicles (protect wheels and body)
- Vehicles with broken or locked steering
- Any vehicle with transmission damage

Frequently Asked Questions
Does my vehicle need flatbed towing?
If your vehicle has AWD, 4WD, all-wheel drive, or full-time four-wheel drive β yes, always. Same for electric vehicles, heavily damaged vehicles, and most luxury cars. When in doubt, call and ask β we’ll tell you straight whether wheel-lift is safe for your specific vehicle.
Can a Tesla or electric vehicle be towed with a regular tow truck?
No. Electric vehicles must be flatbed towed. When the wheels roll on an EV, they generate electricity through regenerative braking β which can overload the battery management system and cause damage. Tesla’s own owner’s manual specifies flatbed only. We follow that spec on every EV call.
How do you load a low-clearance sports car onto a flatbed?
We use wheel nets and soft straps that attach to the wheels β not the frame or body. For ultra-low vehicles like a Porsche 911 or Ferrari, we use reduced-angle loading ramps and extra-soft padding to avoid scraping the front lip or rear diffuser during loading.
Do you tow to any shop in San Antonio?
Yes β dealership, independent shop, your home, or storage. We don’t have referral arrangements with specific shops and won’t steer you anywhere. Texas law gives you the right to choose your destination, and we respect that completely.
