Towing Near JBSA β What Military Drivers Need to Know
Updated: September 2026 Β· 4 min read
JBSA is three installations β Lackland, Randolph, and Fort Sam Houston β with 92,000+ employees commuting daily. Breakdowns near base gates or on surrounding roads (SW Military Dr, Randolph Blvd, Harry Wurzbach Rd) have unique challenges that most towing companies aren’t prepared for.
Key Roads Around JBSA Where Breakdowns Happen
- SW Military Dr β Lackland’s main corridor, heavy commuter traffic
- Randolph Blvd / Pat Booker Rd β Randolph AFB access
- Harry Wurzbach Rd β Fort Sam Houston area
- Highway 90 / Loop 410 south β major approach routes
Gate Access & Towing
Civilian tow trucks cannot enter JBSA installations without gate clearance. If your vehicle breaks down inside the gate, base security will coordinate with authorized tow providers. If you break down outside the gate β on public roads β any licensed TDLR towing company can assist.
Early Muster Tip
4β5 AM breakdowns before early muster are our most common JBSA calls. Most national chains don’t answer. We do β second ring, every time. We’ve gotten airmen to the Pleasanton Rd tire shop and back to base before 0600 muster.
